coach Daniel's Story

Driven by an unwavering passion for mentoring and empowering youth—especially those at risk—Coach Daniel Ortiz has dedicated over two decades to making a lasting impact through leadership, fitness, and community service.
A lifelong athlete and coach, Daniel has trained in Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Kenpo, boxing, and MMA. In 2002, he began his transition into coaching, using boxing, martial arts, and fitness as a vehicle to instill confidence, discipline, and resilience in young people. His journey eventually led him to open his own MMA school in California, where he mentored countless youth, helping them develop both physically and mentally. His deep love for boxing and fitness continues to shape his coaching philosophy, and that same passion has inspired his sons to embrace both Warrior martial arts and USA amateur boxing. As a USA Boxing Coach, Daniel continues to train and guide young athletes, helping them develop their skills both in and out of the ring.
Beyond sports, Daniel has worked tirelessly to uplift youth. At the YMCA, he worked as a fitness trainer, coached basketball, mentored foster and underprivileged children, and led a Fit Kid Program for obese children. As a certified holistic nutritionist, he continues to guide young people and families toward healthier lifestyles, reinforcing the connection between physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
His leadership extends far beyond athletics. Since 2006, Daniel has been a dedicated mentor in church, leading high school and teenage life groups, strengthening families through marriage and family life ministries, and supporting men’s leadership programs. As a Life Group Coach since 2014, he has helped individuals and couples grow in faith, purpose, and resilience.
Daniel’s commitment to volunteering also includes 14 years as a Volunteer Firefighter (2007-2021), with training through the Fire Science Academy in Nevada and Texas A&M TEEX. He also serves as a High Angle Rope Instructor, certified through CMC Technician Level 2.
Through it all, Daniel’s greatest calling has been as a devoted family man—a loving husband of 17 years and a proud father of three boys. While pouring into the lives of young men as their coach and mentor, he has never wavered in his commitment to his own family. Whether in the gym, on the field, or at home, Daniel leads with love, strength, and integrity, ensuring that the same values he instills in others are first lived out with his own wife and children. His dedication to building strong young men and woman and future leaders starts with the example he sets within his own home.
